2010 American Platinum Eagle Proof
On Thurday, August 12, 2010, the 2010 Proof Platinum Eagle coin was offered for sale by the United States Mint. The beautiful coin is the second release in a planned six year series that will focus on the the core concepts of democracy in America.
The coin's obverse, features a design by John Mercanti, Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. His design showcases a stunning rendition of the Statue of Liberty. A design that has been featured as the obverse for previous American Platinum Eagle coin releases.
As in years past, the 2010 American Platinum Eagle Proof Coin will feature a new reverse design this year. The reverse design was created by Master Designer Donna Weaver from the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program. It was sculpted by Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill.
The theme for 2010 features a blindfolded justice a laurel branch in one hand and a set of scales in the other. This unique image is based upon the theme "To Establish Justice" from a narrative that was prepared by US Chief Justice, John G. Roberts, Jr.
These beautiful coins come packaged in a specially designed portfolio presentation case. The narrative from the Chief Justice appears on one side, with coin release information and an official certificate of authenticity on the other. As of it's initial release the price for the coin is $1,892 plus additional charges for shipping and handling. The actual price for the coin may vary from week to week, based upon market fluctuations in the price of platinum.
The 2010 Proof Platinum Eagle coin contains 1-oz. of 99.95% pure platinum, with a legal tender face value of $100. The limited edition coins will have a maximum mintage of 10,000 coins, and are limited to orders of only five coins per household.
